Galvan Industries Galvanizing 300-Ton Contribution To Airport

Two Projects By Galvan Industries Win Praise In New AGA Parking Deck Design Publication

Harrisburg, NC -- A new publication profiling innovative parking garage design and construction projects from around the country highlights two projects that utilized steel components hot-dip galvanized by Galvan Industries, Inc.

Called Parking For The Future, the 12-page full-color brochure from the American Galvanizers Association (AGA) takes in-depth looks at seven modern parking structures assembled with galvanized components. The brochure can be downloaded from the AGA web site, www.galvanizeit.org.

The brochure opens by detailing Galvan's role in construction of the unique parking garage at home improvement retailer Lowe's in Mooresville, N.C. Galvan supplied 1,520 metric tons of hot-dip galvanized columns, lintels, concrete embeds, handrails and castellated beams -- some as long as 60 feet -- for the Lowe's garage.

The AGA ends the brochure by profiling a second Galvan project - construction of the new 3,000-space parking garage at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Designed with an exterior faŤade that mirrors the curves of jet wings, the garage features 300 tons of hot-dipped galvanized bow-string trusses, embedded plates and anchors, stair towers, stairways, handrails and castellated beams provided by Galvan Industries.

The airport project earned the company a 2006 Excellence Award from the AGA. To achieve the winged look, designers and engineers at the airport attaching curved stainless steel cladding to the galvanized steel framing. That combination provided a uniform appearance that cost less than using stainless steel alone.

Galvan Industries is now in its sixth decade as a contract provider of galvanized products to steel fabricators and manufacturers. The first hot-dip galvanizing operation in the Carolinas, the company has grown to become the largest capacity contract galvanizer in the Southeast.
